Srila Prabhupada's Hare Krishna movement teachings are more than love, spirituality and meditation, they actually work in everyday life and business too

A few weeks ago, I attended the opening of a new Srila Prabhupada Garden at Bhaktivedanta Manor, which is situated just outside London in Hertsmere.

Listening to the inspirational speeches in the beautiful gardens of the Manor House, donated to the Hare Krishna movement by the late George Harrison, I almost could have been at a seminar on how to be successful.

The speakers talked about meditation, love and spirituality, but also about the everyday practical things, like the importance of values, hard work, diligence, persistence, goals, planting seeds and never giving up on your purpose. These people have their feet firmly on the ground, and they know how to run an organisation which is larger than many listed corporations!

As the British sun came out for the first time in weeks, we all joined one of the speakers in a chorus of George Harrison's 'Here Comes the Sun.' It was a truly magical moment.

Bhaktivedanta Manor is the UK headquarters of the worldwide ISKCON movement, started in New York 50 years ago by Srila Prabhupada - with no money, no premises and a handful of disciples. It has since grown into a worldwide movement with millions of disciples. How many businesses last for 50 years? Not many, we were told. In fact the average lifespan of a successful business is falling below 20 years and most fail in the first.

After the dedication ceremony, we move to the George Harrison garden with Joshua M. Greene held a book launch for his biography of Srila Prabhupada: 'A Swami in a Strange Land'.

ISKCON has grown without the aid of massive capital injections, advertising campaigns or publicity stunts. The word has quietly spread through its disciples and volunteers.

No one is compelled to do anything, but there is a special power in the collective movement of people and the coming together of minds, sometimes known as a ‘mastermind’.

There are many other movements in the world today run by volunteers who work tirelessly, without pay, for a cause or collective vision. Some are religious or political groups, and some are not an organised ‘group’ at all, such as the Arab Spring or growing demand for a different, more open form of politics.

Another growing trend is the yearning for a more fulfilled and less materialistic life. People in developed countries are starting to move away from the traditional way of working in a job, with more and more of us opting to work from home or spend more time with the family, even if this means giving up a corporate job with a large salary.

In the last few years technology has made this dream a reality for millions of people who want to leave the rat race and get out of the 9-to-5 daily grind.

Anyone, for instance, stay-at-home mums and dads or home-based entrepreneurs, can now work from home using platforms set up by companies like Upwork.com, fiverr.com, Ebay or Amazon.com. We can even trade stocks and currencies using real-time software linked to trading floors that would have been out of reach for individual traders just a few years ago.

Starting a business online in the multi-billion dollar digital economy has never been easier and does not require risking the huge capital needed for traditional bricks and mortar business, such as a franchise or retail outlet.

For instance, MacDonald’s franchise will cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars and it will take several years before you see a profit. Even a small local franchise will set you back $10-15,000 just for the ‘right’ to sell or provide a service in a geographical area.

In both of the above examples, people are physically tied to the business 24 hours a day, 365 days a year (unlike you would be in a digital business). In effect, most franchisees are buying a job.

So what's stopping you making the shift to a different way of life? When I was faced with a similar question a few years ago, having spent most of my life in a job or running a physical business 7 days a week, the answer came down to 2 things:

  1. Education (how to do it) and
  2. Earning enough money to give up full-time work.

I searched for five years and looked at hundreds of offers, get rich quick schemes (which always seems to cost $47, but only if you buy the software today!), various platforms, network marketing and MLM downline selling and affiliate marketing companies. Most of these schemes did not appeal to me, as they either involved selling high priced goods to my friends, or required me to me a technical wizard at setting up websites and online marketing systems.

I finally a company that offered a vehicle for stay-at-home digital entrepreneurs or someone who wanted to start part-time earn affiliate commissions until they had enough passive income to quit their jobs - all without the need to set up websites or possess geeky levels of technical knowledge.

The company has excellent training for their students taking, them through a structured series of modules at their own pace, backed up with webinars and live support and mentoring from real people. What I really liked was the fact that the initial video training, reports and information is downloadable and totally free and without obligation.

Warren Buffet, probably the greatest investor on earth, once said that if you cannot generate passive income, you'll work until you die. The problem is, most people coming up to retirement in the ext 10 to 20 years do not have enough in a pension plan to enable them to retire on a passive income.

Is Facebook and Google's domination of media advertising really bad for digital entrepreneurs?

Just wanted to share an interesting article – ‘Beware of the big beasts as Facebook and Google squeeze rivals’  – by Gideon Spanier, head of media at Campaign magazine, for the London Evening Standard.

If you are a digital marketer, where do you advertise your product? Chances are Facebook, Google and Instagram take up the lion’s share of your budget.

The author is concerned that from a media point of view Facebook and Google completely dominate the online media and their internet advertising revenues increased by a combined $18 billion (£13.7 billion) last year. This figure is the same amount that the entire digital ad market grew globally, with the exception of China, where Facebook and Google are not active.

“Two companies generated growth equal to 100% or more of global digital advertising outside of China last year,” Brian Wieser, an analyst at Wall Street firm Pivotal Research, says.

“Other media owners’ digital growth either came alongside Google’s as part of their ad network activities [through revenue-sharing] or displaced declines from other digital media owners.”
Both are set to grow at a faster rate than in 2015 and should add $23 billion in revenues between them this year, according to Wieser.

Facebook, still only a third of Google’s size, is catching up and has reinvented itself for what it calls a “mobile-feed” world of media consumption. Its messaging app, Messenger, hit one billion users this month, its photo-sharing app, Instagram, passed half a billion in June, and it keeps poaching senior staff from the ad industry.

Meanwhile. half of the world’s top 30 media owners saw their ad revenues fall last year, according to Zenith, the media-buying agency.

Robert Thomson, chief executive of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, the owner of The Sun and The Times, complained that Facebook had changed its algorithm to “reduce, if not remove” news publishers’ stories in favour of other posts.

Kath Viner, editor of The Guardian, which is about to post a loss of £173 million, attacked Facebook.
“Social media companies have become overwhelmingly powerful in determining what we read — and enormously profitable from the monetisation of other people’s work,” she warned.

The author points out that while in the explosion of the digital economy, we enjoy unprecedented limitless media choice as consumers, the power lies with a decreasing number of technology giants.

Whilst the traditional print and other media players are naturally worried about their diminishing market share, smaller advertisers and digital entrepreneurs have never had it so good.

There has never been a time in history when a small business owner could so quickly launch a product worldwide and go toe-to-toe with the big boys.

In the past, businesses had to rely on a scatter gun approach using the likes of the Yellow Pages, local news advertising or leaflet drops to drum up customers. In most cases, we never knew if any of these methods actually worked, as it was almost impossible to measure.

National media coverage was and still is hugely expensive and there is still no guarantee of measurable success. Looking at a newspaper, distributed freely in London, I can see glossy ad’s costing tens of thousands of pounds for big brands – Samsung, Hilton, Virgin and VW - however, these ad’s are increasing awareness rather than directly pulling in business.

Smaller entrepreneurs cannot afford the luxury of placing a series of £25,000 ad’s in the hope of building a brand!

That’s where Google and Facebook comes to our rescue, giving us low-cost targeted advertising with accurate measurable results. Nimble, agile digital entrepreneurs can market any product online, and even compete with larger rivals, using internet platforms like Amazon, Google and Facebook.

Millions of people are now working from home or running home-based businesses, some part-time but others escaping the 9-5 rat race to join the digital economy.

Britain will survive and thrive outside the EU

Brexit hits UK economy says new report

A new report claims that Britain's ‘Brexit’ vote to leave the EU has caused a "dramatic deterioration in economic activity”, which the BBC has compared to the last financial crisis.

Recently published data from IHS Markit's Purchasing Managers' Index, or PMI, shows a drop to 47.7 in July, the lowest level since April in 2009. A reading below 50 indicates contraction.
In plain English, managers who buy stuff for companies are ordering a little less stuff.

Manufacturing and service sectors saw a decline in output and orders, but exports picked up, driven by the weakening of the pound.

You might ask how the report concludes that we are producing less and exporting more?
More than 650 services companies, from sectors including transport, business services, computing and restaurants were surveyed for the report.

They were asked: "Is the level of business activity at your company higher, the same or lower than one month ago?" And manufacturers were quizzed as to whether production had gone up or down.
The PMI is the first major report to measure business reaction to the result of the UK referendum held in June when 17 million people voted to leave the EU.

Bearing in mind it has been just over a month since the vote, during which time we have had a new Prime Minister and reshuffled Cabinet, it is far too early to judge whether or not Britain will grow outside the EU. After all, we are still in the EU!

New Home Secretary Amber Rudd said she would get immigration down to "sustainable" levels, which appears to abandon the previous administrations "tens of thousands" target.

Earlier this week in Germany Prime Minister Theresa May said she will not trigger the ‘Article 50’ leaving process this year, and the Brexit Secretary David Davis said the UK will not be out of the EU until 2018.

Other reports suggest that there will be no dramatic post-EU decline in Britain. This week a Japanese firm announced a deal to invest £24 billion in the technology firm ARM, and said that the Brexit vote made no difference to their decision.

This week, I spent some time in Trafalgar Square (see photo above) in central London and Covent Garden, and it was literally rammed full of tourists. Admittedly, this is the middle of summer, but I have rarely seen London so full of visitors spending their Dollars and Euro's, which now go a lot further with a lower Sterling Pound rate of exchange.

Life will go on with or without the European Union.

The stock market has recovered from early falls (but will always go up and down) and ends the week up, base rates have remained at half a percent and the weak pound is having massive benefits for tourism and exports.

The UK has always been an innovative and industrious nation, and has survived bigger issues than leaving the EU - not EUROPE. We will survive and adapt to the changes ahead and you too can live the life you want regardless of who is running the economy.

The key message for you, or even a business or a country, is to keep developing and never stop learning. One of my mentors, the late Jim Rohn, always talked of making changes to your inner world to change what’s going on in your outer world. Jim said:

“If you will change, everything will change for you”.

Funny Theresa May Protester Outside 10 Downing Street

Funny vidoe of Theresa May protester outside 10 Downing Street where the PM lives and works...yes, she works from home!

In terms of the EU referendum vote in June, Theresa May has stuck to her words: "BREXIT means BREXIT"!

The UK will leave the UK by December 2018, the newly appointed Brexit Secretary David Davis has announced. Euro sceptic and leave campaigner Davis will lead negotiations with EU leaders.

The straight talking leader has confounded her critics by making decisive cabinet changes, including the surprise appointment of the leave campaign leader Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary. She has also offered reassurance to EU migrants living and working in the UK.

With the real Theresa May

The leave process will take years...but life goes on for us in the meantime

Some say it could take six years, others claim it will never happen or the EU will collapse! Who really knows? In the meantime, life goes on for the average person and nothing will change dramatically on a day-to-day basis. The stock market has recovered from early falls, base rates have remained at half a percent and the weak pound is having positive benefits - increased tourism and exports - as well as some negative effects.

The UK has always been an innovative and industrious nation, and has survived bigger issues than leaving the EU. We will survive and adapt to the changes ahead and you too can live the life you want regardless of who is running the economy.

The overall trend towards a knowledge-based, digital economy has not changed. The future is here and we are all going to have to learn new skills in order to adapt to the new technological age.

Don't take my word for it, just look around and see for yourself how many manual and skilled technical jobs can now be done by computers. Even hands-on jobs such as care and nursing can be done by a new wave of robots under development in Japan right now. This is not science fiction and if you really want to be scared the hell out of, watch the video Humans Need Not Apply.

In nature, only those species which were flexible and adaptable survived catastrophic changes, such as the ice age or meteors crashing down on earth. Think of the dinosaurs, which once ruled the planet.

Humans are, of course, the most adaptable of all animals. As the late Jim Rohn said, we can change our direction and lifestyle in an instance, unlike animals which rely on instinct. One way to become more adaptable is to keep learning. It is no longer enough to go through life with a high school diploma or degree.

If you feel something is holding you back from the abundance you deserve, watch the free movie: The Abundance Factor.

Fortunately, the internet has opened up a whole new world of learning. We no longer need to go back to school or university to learn new skills. Britain will be out of EU by December 2018 says Brexit Secretary as life goes on in the digital economy

The UK will leave the UK by December 2018, the newly appointed Brexit Secretary David Davis has announced. Euro sceptic and leave campaigner Davis will lead negotiations with EU leaders.

Despite fears that when a remain campaigner became Prime Minister this week the leave process would be stalled, Theresa May has stuck to her words: "BREXIT means BREXIT"!

The straight talking newest female leader has confounded her critics by making decisive cabinet changes, including the surprise appointment of the leave campaign leader Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary.

Mrs May has now set up a department outside of the Foreign Office to specifically deal with the complex negotiations and process of leaving the European Union, which is expected to take two to three years. Other commentators claim that it could take up to six years to unravel the multi million word treaties and trade deals that have built up over the last 40 years.

This would give ample time for current EU migrants to establish residency in this country should they wish to do so. One thing is for sure, there will be no mass deportation of EU citizens already living in the UK. In fact, Brexit critics argue that there will be no significant reduction in immigration to the UK from Europe and some predict it will increase.

NHS hospitals are still recruiting non-EU nurses - with IELTS 7.00 and initial NMC registration - from the Philippines and other countries to fill job vacancies in the UK.

Adapt to survive

In the meantime, life goes on for the average person and nothing will change dramatically on a day-to-day basis. Live the life you want regardless of who is running the economy

Wednesday 13 July 2016. Hey, I just spent an historic day in London witnessing all the drama and excitement unfold in Westminster and the Houses of Parliament.

In a few hours we had David Cameron giving his last speech as PM in the House of Commons behind me, then resigning as Prime Minister and the first female leader since Margaret Thatcher taking his place - and home - in 10 Downing Street.

Within hours of taking the helm of UK PLC, Theresa May started forming her new government. Out goes George Osborne and in comes Philip Hammond as Chancellor of the Exchequer, and surprise move of the day being Boris Johnson's appointment as Foreign Secretary.

Taking Theresa's old job as Home Secretary will be Amber Rudd, the former Energy and Climate Change Secretary and investment banker. She takes over at the Home Office - border control, UK Visas, Police and homeland security -  where Mrs May has lasted longer than any minister in modern times.

Leave campaigner and euro sceptic, David Davis will be in charge of the important BREXIT (Britain's exit from the EU) process, which should dismiss claims that May, a remain campaigner, will not honour the 17 million people who voted the leave the European Union last month.

Governments make policies and run the wider economy, public spending etc, but ordinary folk like you and I have to run our OWN economy.

Home Based Revolution and Digital Economy

It's a strange fact that at least two of the world's most powerful leaders actually work from home! That's right, they live above the shop and have a home office. Well, not quite, but get this. Within a day of the decision to appoint Theresa May as Prime Minister David and Samantha Cameron were packing their belongings and a van turned up to move them out of number 10!

Seriously, there is a huge shift going on today with more and more people opting to get out of the rat race and daily 9-5 grind and seek a new more satisfying way of living. We want more from life, we want a LIFE, and we are not going to get it spending 40 years commuting to an office or workplace 5 days a week while our families grow up faster than we can say "where did the years go?".

Timothy Ferris may have started all this anarchy when he published his book: 'The 4 Hour Work Week'! Whether you want to be a stay at home mum or someone who wants to persuade their boss to allow them to work from home a few days a week there is a quiet revolution taking place and it has become possible in the digital age. The problem is, most people don't know how they can make the shift from regular job to home-based entrepreneur or worker.

If you enjoy motivational material, you might be interested in The Abundance Factor, a free movie featuring Bob Proctor, T Harv Eker and Dr Joe Vitalie.

Whatever stage you are at on your journey to find your ideal life, you may want to check out a free video training series which teaches you the basic steps of becoming a digital entrepreneur and gives you some useful ideas that could make working from home and living the laptop lifestyle a reality faster than you think.

Home Based Business Ideas UK: Are you really happy in your job?

Home Based Business Ideas UK: Are you really happy in your job?: UK workers tend to work much longer hours than their counterparts in France and Germany, and our labour laws are more flexible. There are ...

Are you really happy in your job?

UK workers tend to work much longer hours than their counterparts in France and Germany, and our labour laws are more flexible. There are also a large numbers of workers zero-hour contracts, which offer no guarantee of how many hours will be offered on any given day.

Whilst most are grateful to have any kind of job, it does not follow that they are happy with the daily grind and drudgery of work. Unlike their parents or grandparents who accepted the status quo, many younger people are looking for something more out of life – they actually want a life and are not prepared to work for 40 years doing a job they hate in the hope that they can enjoy their life in retirement. They want to take the steps to retire young and rich!

Even if young people do their time and reach the magic retirement age, the chances are they will have little to look forward to in terms of a pension. The previous baby boomer generation had the luxury of full employment and final salary pension schemes, which are now almost exclusively only available to public sector employees. The country is facing a ‘pensions time bomb’, where millions of people will be unable to retire due to lack of resources even after earning money throughout their working lives.

You can save into a private pension (the benefits of which are not guaranteed), but with wages being forced down and the cost of housing reaching record levels due to a population boom, most ordinary workers will never be able to save enough to live on during a retirement which could last as long as their working lives.

What’s the solution? To start with, remember two things:  'JOB’ stands for 'Just Over Broke' and employees are someone else’s leverage to get rich.

You may be able to get by in a job, but unless you reach the dizzy heights of senior management, you are unlikely to prosper or become wealthy. Those who do make it to the top of the corporate ladder are often so burnt-out by the long hours and pressure that they are unable to enjoy the fruits of their labour.

Small business owners or the self-employed suffer the same fate of trading their lives and time for money and being stuck on the treadmill working 12 or more hours a day.

I have experienced working in the corporate world and running a small to medium size business. Whilst both had their merits and served a purpose, I would not want to go back to either situation regardless of how much money you paid me. I would rather work from home and have time freedom even if it meant earning less money.

Running a business had greater financial rewards, but the sacrifice in terms of time and energy was far too costly. I also discovered to my cost that small businesses are particularly vulnerable to market forces or changes to government legislation. They can literally be crushed and put out of business overnight.

Robert Kiyosaki's and Sharon Lecter's best selling book, 'Rich Dad Poor Dad', introduced us to the 'Cashflow Quadrant' where most people fall into one of four categories:

  1. Employee - you have a job and are someone’s leverage
  2. Self Employed - you own a job or have bought a job as in the case of most franchises
  3. Investor - you own investments, such as businesses, stocks or property
  4. Business - you own a money making system, which leverages others

Employees and the self-employed or small business owners work hard for their money trading their time (life) for money. Larger business owners, or those with a system using the leverage of employees, and investors make their money work hard for them, earning residual income from the efforts of others.

In other words, the poor work hard for their money, the rich make their money work hard for them.

Through the story of the author's two 'dads', one rich and one poor, the book outlines how the western education system is designed to train people to become employees and teaches us to work hard, study go to university and get a steady job. This model has worked well during the industrial age, but is now failing millions of people. The author writes:

"In preparing for the Information Age, you must change the rules on how you manage your money. You can no longer blindly accept the idea that your job is secure, that your hard work will be rewarded.."

To find out more about the cash flow quadrant and other ideas, read any of the books in the rich dad poor dad series or check out Robert Kiyosaki's website.

So what are the alternatives to employee or self employed?

If you are in a situation where your J.O.B. is barely providing you with enough to keep your head above water, you may want to consider ways of earning extra money to save for your future or pay for those luxuries like a new car or house.

For those who lack the capital to become an investor, and do not want to ‘buy’ a self-employed job, you could try joining forces with a large business with a sales system which can help you earn new and residual income.

There is nothing new in this idea. People have been selling products on a part-time or full-time basis for direct sales companies, such as Avon, and network marketing companies like Amway for decades. Selling cosmetics and detergent to their friends and family may not suit everybody, but some, such as the late author and speaker Jim Rohn, became millionaires using these very systems.

In recent years, the digital age has provided us with multiple opportunities to earn money online, from the comfort of our own home, by selling our own products or other people's products through affiliate marketing schemes. Some are household names - Amazon and EBay – and offer ready-made platforms to help anyone with an internet connection the chance to earn money online.

I have found that the drawback with the majority of these schemes is that you need an above average level of technical knowledge to set up websites and databases. The commissions are also very low, which means you have to sell a lot of products before you can fire your boss!

Having researched hundreds of companies and schemes I found that most lacked the basic attributes which I consider are essential to long term success:

  • Ready-made systems or turnkey business structure
  • Built-in automated follow-up system
  • Ongoing value-based product range
  • Residual income stream opportunities
  • Tracking systems
  • Training and support for affiliates

There were companies which had excellent systems, but low-ticket one-off products or offered no training and support. Most had no training or support and left it to you to build your own systems. Others put up barriers, such as restricting sales to certain countries or even banning the use of pay-per-click marketing!

After searching for 5 years and through trial and error, I finally a company that ticked all the boxes offering stay-at-home digital entrepreneurs who want to escape the rat race the opportunity to earn affiliate commission - without the need to set up websites or possess geeky levels of technical knowledge. The company trains their students online taking them through a structured series of modules at their own pace, backed up with webinars and live support and mentoring from real people.

What I really liked was the fact that the initial video training, reports and information is downloadable and totally free and without obligation. To find out more on how to escape the 9-5 life sentence, join the new rich and live the laptop lifestyle check it out by clicking here.

Home Based Business Ideas UK: How to make money online and retire rich: We have all had the emails promising that you can 'retire young and rich' by buying the latest 'secret' or make 'ton...

How to make money online and retire rich

We have all had the emails promising that you can 'retire young and rich' by buying the latest 'secret' or make 'tons of money' with no work.

You know what I mean, a 'once only' offer that will expire in a few hours, and the price is reduced if you buy today for a variety of amounts all ending with the figure .97! Apparently, we are more likely to but something if the price ends with '.97' - $29.97 or $47.97. And who are they fooling when they hire a big house (with no personal effects) and a Ferrari for the day and pretend they own them?

If you bought the product blindly, you were probably disappointed when you clicked the 'buy now' button only to find it was some useless course or complicated software that failed to bring in an 'avalanche of income' - either because it never worked or you did not understood how to use it?

Over the years I have researched and tried a number of different online affiliate marketing programs (selling other people's products for a commission) and courses with varying degrees of success. I had made money from the internet, but never quite found the company or product that could help me earn money while I slept or live the 'digital laptop lifestyle' lying on a beach - having said that, I can't read the screen in bright sunshine!

Yes, I'd made some money, but many of the methods I used 5 years ago were no longer bringing in the same results. Things move fast, technology changes, so I needed to upgrade my skills and knowledge. To be truthful, at this point I was beginning to wonder if it was really possible to earn a living and 'retire' though online marketing or low commission affiliate schemes like Amazon.

Then one evening I saw an ad on Facebook posted by a group of young Australian kids who were 'living the dream' on a beach in the Philippines. Having spent a lot of time in the Philippines over the years (recruiting Filipino nurses), the content caught my eye.

What interested me most was the fact that they were offering something of real value without asking me for any money upfront or credit card details. Not just some cheap ebook, but a free online 7 Day Video Course showing you how to earn money on the internet with no strings attached. I had nothing to lose and everything to gain, so I thought why it a try?

After giving my email address to access the course I immediately started watching the professionally made videos and soaking up the easy-to-read content packed with money making ideas. Although sceptical at first (based on past experience) I had, to admit that I was amazed by the amount of valuable information freely given. I could see exactly where I had been going wrong and what to do about it in order to get out of the rat race and retire through internet marketing.

So can you really make a living or retire through online or internet marketing working from a home-based business?

Having doubted this, I am now convinced that you can work from home and make money online provided you have the right internet training and support and real products of value to market. If you try tinker at it on your own you will reduce your chances of making enough money to quit your job and living the life you really want. Nearly all businesses use the internet these days, so it's not some obscure idea. The internet boom is only just starting, according to the experts, and we can all ride the next wave.

How to make money online, leave the rat race and join the laptop entrepreneurs

Are you inundated with ad's promising you that you can 'retire young and rich' by buying the latest 'secret' or make 'tons of money' with no work or effort?

Usually, it's a 'once only' offer that will expire in a few hours, and the price is reduced if you buy today for a variety of amounts all ending with the figure .97!

As I said, I'd made some money, but many of the methods I used 5 years ago were no longer bringing in the same results. Things move fast, technology changes, so I needed to upgrade my skills and knowledge. To be truthful, at this point I was beginning to wonder if it was really possible to earn a living and 'retire' though online marketing or low commission affiliate schemes like Amazon.

Then one evening on a crowded commuter train from London I saw an ad on Facebook posted by a group of young Australian kids who were 'living the dream' on a beach in the Philippines.
